Read and look over the English 130 Website

This week is different, for sure. I would like you to take a look at my English 130 website and start to look at the course.  Here is a link:

When you are looking at the website you will see some similarities to our class. What I would most like you to concentrate on are the syllabus and assignment sequence and the daily work.  I'd like you to begin to analyze the course. What do you see?  I'm not asking about a typo or things like that. I'm thinking about how the assignments are working together.

 

Everyone will complete a Blog or Vlog for this reading.  You can think a little more informally about this response. For this blog/vlog, I think what would be interesting is to think about the different types of assignments that the class is asking of students. Are there any assignments that seem particularly interesting, or hard?  What do you think I am asking the students to do in this class? What do you think it will prepare them for? What stands out to you?  Confuses you?  What are you surprised by?  How would you present the curriculum differently?  The blog should be at least 150 words or 3 minutes long.

You can choose to complete a microtheme paper for this article.  You will need to complete 3 microtheme papers during this course. In this paper, you should consider a more formal approach.  Organizational aspects of the paper are important. For the microtheme, I would like you to analyze the assignment sequence and syllabus by facilitating a discussion on how the theory we have read shows up in this version of an English 130 class.

These papers are 4 pages long in correct MLA or APA format and should cite all of your material properly. Spelling and grammar count, too. You should be quoting and citing in these papers and they should include a separate (not counted towards the 4-page minimum) Works Cited or Reference page.

Between now and week 10, I will ask you to observe a classroom. I usually have you attend a live class but, due to Covid-19, I am asking you to attend a virtual class.  I will be posting several links to possible classes to observe, but you can also find classes of your choice to observe.  I prefer it to be a classroom where writing happens. That may not be possible for you all.  In that case, any classroom will do. Make sure you take notes about everything that happened in that class.
